Philadelphia, also known as the City of Brotherly Love, is located on the East Coast of the USA, 90-minutes drive south of New York and two hours north of Washington, D.C. Philadelphia is also easily accessible along the Northeast Corridor via Amtrak.
By foot! Philadelphia is one of the world’s most walkable cities and has the perfect balance between city exploration and ample green spaces. While visitors could easily spend a week exploring all the wonders in Philadelphia and its countryside nearby, we recommend giving yourself at a minimum of three days in the city.
Philadelphia is also a great three-day add-on to any New York City itinerary.

Philadelphia Flower Show
With a new theme each year, the Philadelphia Flower Show invites premier floral and landscape designers from all over the world to bring dazzling displays to life in Philadelphia. The event draws both floral artists and aficionados to the city, bringing them together to marvel at the show’s breathtaking arrangements. Showcasing the electrifying presence of today’s most dynamic designers of floral arrangements, lush gardens, and landscapes to visitors from around the world.
Philadelphia Auto Show
This iconic event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center features tons of cool cars, test-drives, and so much more. Guests of the annual Philadelphia Auto Show can get a sneak peek at the newest vehicle models, and check out displays from more than 20 brands, including Aston Martin, McLaren, Jeep, and Nissan.
This year, the Philadelphia Auto Show takes place from January 13 – 21, 2024.
Mummers Parade
This is an annual Philadelphia tradition as the charismatic Mummers strut along Broad Street, celebrating the New Year for the Mummers Parade. The colourful and extravagant costumes and performances are judged at the Fancy Brigade Finale at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
The Mummers Parade is held annually on New Years Day.
LumiNature at Philadelphia Zoo
More than a million lights create dozens of illuminating, animal-themed displays that are spread throughout the grounds. Experience different themed zones, including the popular Penguin Prismatic area, featuring a 40-foot-tall penguin that glimmers with 40,000 lights. Another whimsical zone is the Shimmer River, featuring a 100-foot-long tunnel made of 4,000 lights that create scenes from growing vines to blooming flowers.
“Mickalene Thomas: All About Love”
“Mickalene Thomas: All About Love” is the first major international tour focused on the work of Mickalene Thomas, whose art draws from 19th-century painting and popular culture. Co-organized by the Hayward Gallery and The Broad, the exhibition features a vivid array of paintings, collages, photography, video, and site-specific installations. Thomas’s work, known for its rhinestone-encrusted, large-scale tableaux, celebrates Black femininity through bold compositions that explore beauty, desire, and agency from a Black feminist perspective. Witness to the Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington’s Tent at the Museum of the American Revolution
From the Revolutionary War to the present day, generations of Americans and visitors from abroad have found inspiration in the presence of General George Washington’s headquarters tent. Today, this remarkable artifact is pitched in Philadelphia at the Museum of the American Revolution, where more than one million visitors since 2017 have learned about Washington’s leadership and America’s ongoing experiment in liberty, equality, and self-government through an immersive presentation.
“Shared Vision: Portraits from The CCH Pounder-Koné Collection”
Shared Vision: Portraits from The CCH Pounder-Koné Collection showcases a selection of contemporary African and African diasporic art collected by actress and art patron CCH Pounder. The exhibition features striking portraits that explore themes of identity, culture, and heritage, offering insight into the diverse experiences of African and African-descended artists. Through this collection, Pounder emphasizes the power of portraiture to capture personal stories and challenge traditional narratives in the art world.
The First Amendment at The National Constitution Center
The National Constitution Center has unveiled its newest exhibit, “The First Amendment.” Visitors are invited to explore the 1,500-square-foot space while learning more about the freedoms of religious liberty, free speech, assembly, and the right to petition.
More than 20 artifacts are on display, including a handwritten letter dated 1789 from President George Washington to the Quakers and an Anti-Vietnam War armband worn by the Tinker family associated with the landmark student speech case, Tinker v. Des Moines. This is the museum’s newest permanent gallery.
Wawa Welcome America
During Wawa Welcome America, celebrate America’s Independence with a multi-week-long festival featuring family-friendly fun, free concerts from chart-topping entertainers, and a patriotic parade traveling past America’s most historic sites, all capped by a spectacular fireworks show above the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The event runs every year from June – July.
The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival
The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival transforms Philadelphia’s Franklin Square at 6th and Race Streets into a dreamlike garden filling it with massive lantern displays that celebrate the cultural traditions of China.
This amazing event runs annually from June – August.
Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary
From the creators of the famed Terror Behind the Walls haunted attraction, the new Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary fills the cellblocks of America’s most historic prison with 15 attractions, including two haunted houses, four immersive walk-through environments, two live performances, four themed bars and lounges, and a new Steve Buscemi-narrated audio tour recorded especially for Halloween Nights.
Get ready for a spooky Halloween with this frightful event running annually September – November.

Michelin releases Philadelphia travel guide
Philadelphia now has the proud distinction of being one of just eight destinations in the United States with its own Michelin Green Guide. The Michelin Green Guide highlights Philadelphia as a premier travel destination. It explores the great attractions, restaurants, hotels, and experiences in Philadelphia and The Countryside of Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau partnered with Michelin to create the guide and bring the esteemed publication to the city.

Philadelphia Becomes First Certified Sensory-Inclusive City
The City of Philadelphia has been named the first Certified Sensory Inclusive City by KultureCity, a non-profit dedicated to helping communities adapt to the needs of people with sensory-based disabilities. Over 16,000 city employees were trained in sensory awareness and creating sensory rooms. The city also unveiled unique mobile sensory stations available for use at events.

Iconic Cheesesteak Spot Jim’s South Street Re-Opens
South Street cheesesteak staple Jim’s Steaks recently reopened after a July 2022 fire with a renovated space featuring mosaics salvaged from the adjacent Eye’s Gallery. The second floor now showcases some of artist Isaiah Zagar’s earliest mosaics, previously hidden behind drywall. This restoration effort, led by the Magic Gardens team, preserves the spirit of Eye’s Gallery, reflecting on the corner’s history while embracing new beginnings. Most of Jim’s original staff is also back, cooking and serving Jim’s iconic steak.

The Franklin Institute to open “Wondrous Space” exhibit
The Franklin Institute, in partnership with Boeing, has opened its newest core exhibit, an entirely new future-focused “Wondrous Space” exhibit, dedicated to space exploration. The museum transformed its existing exhibit into an immersive two-story gallery dedicated to space exploration. The museum’s former space exhibit was expanded by about 650 square metres, which is almost three times its previous size. The groundbreaking space exhibit is ushering in a new age of space science at the museum, just in time for the institution’s 200th anniversary in 2024.

“The Art of the Brick”
Known as the world’s largest display of LEGO® art, “The Art of the Brick” is coming to The Franklin Institute. This exhibition will feature 100 incredible works of art made from millions of colourful LEGO® bricks by artist Nathan Sawaya. “The Time Is Always Now: Artists Reframe the Black Figure” curated by Ekow Eshun, showcases 27 Black and African diasporic contemporary artists who use painting, drawing, and sculpture to celebrate the richness of Black life. Inspired by James Baldwin’s writings, the exhibition emphasizes the urgency of contemporary Black artistic expression, exploring themes such as Double Consciousness, The Persistence of History, and Our Aliveness. These works examine Black identity, the erasure of Black figures in mainstream narratives, and the celebration of Black culture and community. -

A new Formula One arcade is set to open in Philadelphia in 2025
A new Formula One arcade is set to open in Philadelphia in 2025. F1 Arcade will bring its first-of-its-kind experiential venue with show-stopping hospitality and an electrifying atmosphere to the center of the city. New Calder museum set to open in 2025
Philadelphia’s Museum Mile is getting ready to welcome Calder Gardens, a museum dedicated to Alexander "Sandy" Calder. Calder Gardens, featuring galleries illuminated by natural light and set in a landscape of native and flowering species, will showcase a rotating selection of masterworks from the Calder Foundation, including mobiles, stabiles, sculptures, and paintings. Installed both indoors and outdoors, Calder’s art will interact with nature and the seasons, providing a space for contemplation, learning, and community building through various public programs and events. Calder Gardens broke ground in fall 2022 and is set to open in summer 2025. -
Bicentennial Bell Garden in Old City
In honor of America’s bicentennial in 1976, Queen Elizabeth II presented the Bicentennial Bell to the United States. Cast in the same foundry as the iconic Liberty Bell, it was publicly displayed until 2013, then placed in storage. Now, after a decade, the bell returns to public view as the focal point of the new Bicentennial Bell Garden. The Benjamin Rush Garden in Old City has been reimagined to showcase the bell, surrounded by locally sourced greenery symbolizing the seeds exchanged between the two nations in the 1700s.
