Top Cafes in the Dubbo Region

The Dubbo region may not be on your radar for your next road trip, but if you like brunching, it should be….

Less known for its food scene and better known for Taronga Western Plains Zoo, did you know that the Dubbo region has many cool café spots? Here’s our round up of some of the best, so you can pop them on your next itinerary:

Short Street Store

With its relaxed vibes, delicious coffee, milkshakes, and a food menu suited to all tastes, Short Street Store is located in the middle of a residential area in Dubbo’s city centre. Either sit inside the homey café, or take a seat in the sunny courtyard – either way make this café a must-visit.

The Auctioneer Café and Bar

Housed in the iconic Richardson & Sinclair building in the heart of Dubbo, The Auctioneer Cafe and Bar showcases high quality coffee and a seasonal menu using mostly local produce. The menu boasts an offering of fresh, local, and seasonal produce, and celebrates seasonal flavours. It offers gluten-free options, along with decadent French pastries baked locally, and wholesome breakfast and lunch dishes.

Black Tambourine Coffee & Eats

Black Tambourine Coffee & Eats is Dubbo’s own hole in the wall café. Owned by Henry Doliveiro, this hidden gem offers a menu where everything is made in-house. While you can grab a delicious coffee from the hole in the wall, there’s room to pull out a chair upfront, plus a nook out back where you can escape the outside world for a while.

Cakes by Amy

One for those with a sweet tooth – Cakes by Amy’s is the most beautiful cake shop we’ve ever seen! Amy is a qualified chef and Dubbo local, who one day decided to teach herself to make cakes. She loved cake-making so much, she left her full-time chef job to make cakes from home, and she then grew this into her own kitchen and shopfront. Cakes by Amy offers a variety of sweet treats such as cupcakes, sugar cookies, chocolate bark, brownies, and rocky road. And you’ll want to take a pic for Instagram when you’re in there too…

Milky Daze, Wellington

Take a step back into the 1950’s diner style and experience old fashioned milkshakes, burgers, soda floats, sweets and candy. Milky Daze owner Lizzy George says that the diner is opened during hours where other places in Wellington are shut, to provide locals and visitors with a welcoming stop to grab food and socialise. Also a hit with the kids (the milkshakes and ice creams are unreal!), the diner offers a fun and unique alternative to other fast food restaurants.
