Rocky Mountaineer is based in Canada & United States. They operate luxury scenic rail tours on different rail routes in Vancouver, Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, Calgary, Moab, Salt Lake City & Denver.
Rocky Mountaineer offers exceptional service throughout the seven months that it operates. Guests who are looking to get maximum time outside to engage in active tours such as kayaking or hiking should look to book in the summer months. To see dramatic snowfall and wintery landscapes, early spring or late autumn is recommended.
Guests can fly directly from Sydney to Vancouver with Air Canada, otherwise, flights connect through Los Angeles and San Francisco.
No. The RM journeys go for around 7 hours each day, and at the conclusion of each day guests stay in luxury hotels along the route.
From the exterior, it’s easy to tell a GoldLeaf Service coach from a SilverLeaf Service coach. With a dining room and an outdoor viewing platform on the lower level, plus spacious, reclining seats and full-dome windows on the upper level, our bi-level, GoldLeaf Service coaches stand taller than our single-level SilverLeaf Service coaches. The upper level is where you can relax, stretch out in comfortable, reclining seats and enjoy complimentary beverages and snacks while one of four dedicated hosts share stories about the areas the train passes through, and serve you meals.
Want to stretch your legs, take videos and photos from outside or join everyone in the dining room for breakfast or lunch? Take the spiral staircase to the lower level.
On the lower level, you’ll find our GoldLeaf Service dining room and the adjacent galley in which our culinary team prepares multi-course, gourmet meals that will keep you well-fed throughout your journey. It’s also where you’ll find two bathrooms and a door leading to the outdoor viewing platform. Outside on the platform, you can take photos, enjoy conversations with fellow travellers, and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of Western Canada’s great outdoors.
If you don’t want to miss a second of the ever-changing landscape, our SilverLeaf Service is for you. Once seated, you really won’t have to get up again – unless you want to! However, our SilverLeaf Service coaches offer a generous amount of space for you to stand, stretch or look at the view from the over-sized windows.

There are wonderful opportunities for viewing wildlife from the train and during your stay in Canada’s West, including bear, elk, deer, moose, bald eagles, osprey, salmon, mountain goats and bighorn sheep. However, “wildlife are wild” and as such, sightings are never guaranteed. If you do come into contact with animals please act responsibly, maintain a safe distance and never feed any wild animals.
October is known as the ‘great last fall feast’ for grizzly bears. With spawned-out salmon pushed down to the river mouth, grizzly bears are lured out by easier fishing. With expansive viewing of the great outdoors, from the warmth and comfort of Rocky Mountaineer, those who travel to the Canadian Rockies in October may be able to see a grizzly bear before they go down for their winter sleep.
Travelling by daylight, the train’s all dome design gives guests unparalleled views of vast and untouched landscapes. Onboard hosts provide engaging storytelling, highlighting glacier-capped mountains, waterfalls and wildlife. The driver of the train is constantly on the lookout for grizzly bears, and will alert the train’s host via intercom when a bear is spotted, at which point the hosts will relay to the passengers in the carriages, who can head to the windows ready for their photo opportunity!
Our internationally accomplished chefs, led by Executive Chefs Jean Pierre Guerin and Frédéric Couton and their team have created menus for our guests that reflect that beauty and celebrate the unique character of Western Canada. The delectable breakfast and lunch dishes offered in all levels of services onboard have become an integral part of the experience.
Travellers enjoy outstanding three-course, à la carte meals made with fresh, local ingredients indigenous to two of Canada’s most bountiful regions, British Columbia and Alberta. Menu selections of prime Alberta beef, wild Pacific salmon and regional poultry accompanied by a selection of award-winning Okanagan wines impress the most discerning palate. A sweet tooth is easily satisfied with delectable warm brownies covered in chocolate sauce and berries, or a creamy cheesecake drizzled with berry coulis.
Throughout the journey, guests have the chance to enjoy amazing Western Canada highlights such as canoeing, kayaking, camping, golfing, helicopter tours, local culinary and cultural experiences.
In Vancouver, guests are encouraged to explore the city’s highlights, including Vancouver Island, Stanley Park, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Additionally, the world-famous indoor farmers’ markets at Granville Island are a must-do. The city is also great for nightlife, bars and culinary experiences.
Guests can also add a cruise package before or after their journey, as many Alaskan cruise lines port in Vancouver.
