The Natural State: Hikes, Views, and Vistas of Arkansas
The darkest skies in The Natural State can be found at one of Arkansas’s greatest national treasures, The Buffalo National River.
The Buffalo National River is officially an International Dark Sky Park, a designation made by the non-profit International Dark-Sky Association. This means it’s perfect for anyone that loves to star-gaze on their travels!
And it’s not just a great destination for night-time discovery. The National Park Service overseas 95,730 acres along the Buffalo River and three designated wilderness areas within that acreage. Rushing whitewater is interspersed among sections of calmer water as the river runs 217 kilometres through a lush green valley that is home to elk, deer, black bears, and other woodland creatures.
